The Pirate Club’s story began with a shared belief that East Carolina Athletics could be something special. What started as a small group of passionate supporters has grown into a foundation dedicated to providing resources, opportunities and support for ECU student-athletes.

Through annual giving, endowments, capital projects and member support, the Pirate Club continues to play a vital role in the success and growth of Pirate Athletics.

The Early Years

In the early 1960s, ECU supporters organized around a bold vision: building a stronger future for Pirate Athletics. Their efforts helped lay the foundation for what would become the East Carolina University Educational Foundation, known today as the Pirate Club.

Growing the Mission

As ECU Athletics grew, so did the Pirate Club. Generations of members have helped fund scholarships, enhance facilities and create opportunities for student-athletes to compete, graduate and represent East Carolina with pride.

Pirate Club Timeline

1961 | The Beginning

The earliest roots of the Pirate Club trace back to a group of passionate ECU supporters who helped launch organized fundraising efforts for Pirate Athletics.

1962 | Century Club Formed

The Century Club helped formalize support for ECU Athletics and created a stronger pathway for fans, alumni and friends to invest in the future of the Pirates.

1972 | The Pirate Club Name

The East Carolina University Educational Foundation became known as the Pirate Club, carrying forward a tradition of support that continues to define ECU Athletics.

1980s–2000s | Growth and Impact

The Pirate Club continued to expand its reach, helping support scholarships, facility growth and major athletics initiatives that shaped the future of East Carolina University.

Today | Building the Future

Today, Pirate Club members continue to make a lasting difference by supporting scholarships, student-athlete success, facility enhancements and the long-term future of ECU Athletics.

The Pirate Club Today

The Pirate Club remains the fundraising and friend-raising arm of ECU Athletics, connecting Pirates everywhere to the student-athletes, coaches and programs they love.
